Cabbage Casserole (No Mess/No Maintenance Dinner)
This recipe is great for a busy week night, and sticks to your ribs. This is a great dish to prepare when you are unable to stand at the stove for an extended period of time. It just takes one stir! Choose this dish for an evening, when all you have time for is to eat!
The hamburger and cabbage hold hands during the cooking process, and meld into a beautiful dish.
Ingredient List
• 1 head of cabbage (purple or green) (chopped)
• 1 cup of white jasmine rice (instant rice will not work for this recipe)
• 1 can of tomato paste (6 ounces)
• 1 pound of ground beef
• 1 can of diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces) (Italian style or plain)
• 2-3 cups of water
• Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions for Cooking
Preheat the oven to 375 °F. 1.) Place hamburger and rice in the bottom of Dutch oven, and combine well. After combining the hamburger and rice, next add the cabbage, the tomato paste, and the diced tomatoes. 2.) Salt and pepper the raw ingredients in the Dutch oven, well! 3.) Add 2-3 cups of water the Dutch oven, and place the heavy lid on, sealing in all the ingredients. 4.) Place the Dutch oven in the preheated oven, and allow to cook for 1.5 hours undisturbed. 5.) Pull the Dutch oven out, and give the ingredients a stir, to combine everything well. Place the lid back on, and allow the food to cook for another 30 minutes. 6.) Allow the food to cool, for at least 10 minutes before attempting to consume!

CHICKENS:
At Bubba’s Homestead, our chickens are free-range, they eat a proprietary blend of grains, later crumbles and happily participate in pest control in our gardens!
Rocky:
Rocky is our handsome Buff Orpington Rooster, and resident tough guy. He lost his comb to frost bite and many other catastrophic events such as the great storms of 2022 in June, that destroyed the chicken coops.
For emotional reasons, Rocky prefers not to talk about the multiple Racoon attacks, but let’s just say that there is only one remaining survivor to tell the tale, and he ain’t of talkin’. He’s Rocky.
Rocky II:
Rocky II is a Rhode Island Red, who enjoys long walks around the hens and not getting attacked by Rocky. He is what you would call an “apprentice” right now, we’re hoping he can live up to the legendary status of OG Rocky, but according to Rocky, that remains to be seen.
Penny:
Penny is a Rhode Island Red hen layer, she’s a runner, she’s a jumper, she’s a track star. If you don’t allow her access, she will jump the fence. She’s her own woman, on a mission to explore every inch of the farm we have informed her that she is not allowed to. Pretty sure she has dreams of taking her magic show on the road. “Coming to a circus near you soon – Penny, the Amazing Escape Artist Chicken”!
